What I Did?

  • I replaced the 4GB compact flash hard drive with a 256GB SD card in a CF card adapter. (yes it had a hard drive)

  • I broke the fragile click wheel ribbon connector then had to buy a replacement off eBay.

  • I 3d printed a new shell to give it a nice grip. (I need to reprint it though)

What did i do?

I received the IPod on October 7th 2024. I started to flash mod the IPod with a 256 Gig SD card. Then when I disconnected the click wheel I used the provided pry tool and sliced into the solder pads. I should of used a different tool, but i did not.

What now?

I found a used click wheel on ebay, cheaper than on Elite Obsolete; so my wallet is not hurting too bad.

I will write a new post after I replace the click wheel.

Why do i need a 20 year old IPod?

I want to listen to music, podcasts, and audiobooks while I work without my smart phone in my pocket. It is a distraction from what i need to do.

What will i do to the poor thing?

I will be replacing the micro hard drive with a SD card adapter with 256 Gig of storage. also i will be installing Rockbox. https://www.rockbox.org/
