Why did I Go?

I wanted to show off my In Car 3D printer setup. Also I live an hour and a half away from the event, so why not.

What happens at the event?

Day 1:

Me and my Dad drove an hour and a half from where we live to Bel Air Maryland. After getting there, I put together a poster board that advertised my 3d printer setup. Then I spent most of the time wondering the event floor when i should of spent more time advertising. Any ways I saw a bunch of YouTube content creators at the event. also a ton of cool projects and prints.

Day 2:

I spent more time showing my setup on day 2. At first no one was going to see it, so I attached a sign to my back that told people to look in the parking lot for my car with a balloon. then people started to come see.

Conclusion:

I had a lot of fun at the event. meet some You Tubers and saw the behind the scenes of a few videos, which was cool. i plan on coming back next year.

Why I Switched?

My Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 running on /e/ OS that I acquired during my senior year of high school ceased functioning after a recent problematic update. Consequently, I was compelled to obtain a new phone with de-Google capabilities as I dislike the presence of AI, ads, relentless sign-in requests from Google, and the questionable business practices of large tech companies.

My Review of Graphene OS

In comparison to /e/ OS, GrapheneOS provides faster and more stable updates, ensuring your device runs on the latest security patches and features. GrapheneOS is designed to be lightweight and minimal, offering a bare-bones Android experience upon installation. This means you'll need to install applications to build the user experience that suits your needs. Despite its stripped-down nature, GrapheneOS delivers an exceptional secure minimalist experience by prioritizing privacy, security, and performance. It is particularly well-suited for users who value these aspects and wish to customize their device according to their preferences.

The Essay

To address whether decentralized social platforms like the Fediverse can effectively mitigate the inherit problems of hate speech, censorship, disinformation, and addiction, one must understand these issues in context.

Hate speech refers to discourse that attacks or degrades a particular group based on their inherent characteristics, such as race, religion, gender, etc. This can be seen as an issue of social peace since it threatens the unity and harmony of society.

On the other hand, censorship involves the restriction of access to certain content or information, which is essential for maintaining social order. The Fediverse seeks to mitigate these issues by implementing effective code of conduct (CoC) mechanisms that govern each server on the platform. This ensures that users are comfortable and feel supported when they interact with one another.

Online disinformation also refers to the spreading of false information, rumors, or misinformation on social media platforms for nefarious purposes. The Fediverse takes proactive measures to prevent such content from spreading on its platforms, making it a more secure and enjoyable platform for users who value privacy and free expression.

As for online addiction, this term is quite ambiguous as it encompasses various factors that can lead individuals to excessively engage with the digital sphere. The Fediverse, however, offers unique features to mitigate this issue. For instance, it includes features code of conduct and good moderation tools.

Summery

while decentralized social platforms like the Fediverse cannot eliminate all online issues such as hate speech, censorship, disinformation, and addiction, they have proven effective in mitigating some of them. This is due to their strict code of conduct and their emphasis on privacy and freedom of expression.

My Thoughts and personal problems fixed

The upcoming release appears strong based on my assessment. I appreciate the renaming of specific Nix configuration options. Additionally, for my daily 3D printing tasks, new applications such as Orca Slicer have been included, which previously required me to obtain the package from the unstable branch and encounter issues with incompatible Mesa versions on 23.11. Although there may have been a resolution, I prefer a seamless experience straight out of the box.

Why did i do this?

  • Since I'm not home as much anymore, it allows me to 3d print more, and keep an eye on the printer. also it comes in handy when stuff brakes on the road, like the carabiner i use for my keys.
  • I was inspired by two Van Life You Tuber that 3d print out of their camper vans's. The you tube channel's are called “Morley Kert” and “Vanlife Troglio”.
